Book Review: To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

To All the Boys I've Loved Before
By: Jenny Han

Rating: 4/5 stars

Summary: What if all the crushes you ever had found out how you felt about them… all at once?

Sixteen-year-old Lara Jean Song keeps her love letters in a hatbox her mother gave her. They aren’t love letters that anyone else wrote for her; these are ones she’s written. One for every boy she’s ever loved—five in all. When she writes, she pours out her heart and soul and says all the things she would never say in real life, because her letters are for her eyes only. Until the day her secret letters are mailed, and suddenly, Lara Jean’s love life goes from imaginary to out of control.

This book was soooo cute! I could not stop reading it! Seriously I don't know what it was about this book but it was just so perfectly cute I wanted to eat it up like a cupcake! Laura Jean was so relatable! Not in a boring way but in a way were the details were so on point that it was like she could have been talking about her actual life. It felt like I was reading about a totally normal girl and this was what her life was like. I totally loved it!
I have to admit though I was slow starting out this book. It took me about 80 pages before I really got into this book. The one thing I hate about starting a series is all the background info they try and shove in the first one hundred pages. I mean I know I need to know the stuff, but I just find it all so incredibly boring! The book finally started to pick up when they introduced Peter.

“It’s fun to think of the what-if. Scary, but fun. It’s like, I thought this door was closed before, but here it is open just the tiniest crack. What if?”

Peter was incredibly charming and a bit annoying at times but again Jenny Han surprised me with how real she made the characters! I feel like I've met a boy like Peter!!! Also Laura Jeans relationships with her sisters is absolutely like the relationship with my sisters. I'm not kidding around. Kitty could literally be my little sister. My sister is always messing with me and blaming me for stupid stuff, their fights are like legitimate fights I have had with my little sis (who is also 9!)

"Margot would say she belongs to herself. Kitty would say she belongs to no one. And I guess I would say I belong to my sisters and my dad, but that won’t always be true. To belong to someone—I didn’t know it, but now that I think about, it seems like that’s all I’ve ever wanted. To really be somebody’s, and to have them be mine.”

Laura Jeans quirkiness was also amazing to read. The details were just so precise I had to ask myself, how is she making this stuff up! Some of these facts have to be real! I mean like Laura Jeans love for vintage clothing or the way her family makes Korean food together!

“My favourite food is cake.
What kind of cake?
It doesn't matter. All cake.”

Speaking of Korean food I found the glimpses into Korean culture fascinating! Also all the sisters relationships with their neighbor, Josh was completely endearing! This book was just so addicting I couldn't get over it! I finished it in like two days! The relationship that starts to devolp between Laura Jean and Peter! I mean swoon! But then of course theres Josh... who always, always, seems to be there! Its quite annoying at times. Its like can't you see your ruining things that are already in motion Josh! Gosh dang it! Plus theres the whole situation with the letters being sent out! Like OMG I think I would die of embarrassment! But Laura Jean actually handles it with the approbate amount of spunk and is able to brush it off impressively!

“My letters are for when I don't want to be in love anymore. They're for good-bye. Because after I write in my letter, I'm not longer consumed by my all-consuming love...My letters set me free. Or at least they're supposed to.”

This book is just so perfect anybody who needs a feel good book has to read To All the Boys I've Loved Before! It is just the perfect heart melting book that makes you feel like your at home! I seriously feel like I am a part of Laura jeans family now and it is awesome! A solid 4 star read please give it a chance the next time your looking for something to read! Thanks for stopping by! :)
