December/January TBR and Book Haul!

Hey everybody!! Happy Holidays!! So happy to be back blogging with you guys! Had to take a little bit of a breather there do to the heckticness of FINALS! (my god that was death. Completely took away my reading time and I felt like I was missing a limb) any who back on the blog now and happy to be doing so.

Reading. I want to do more of it. I need to do more of it. The books I want to read heavily agree with me on this (I mean there amazing and I have been neglecting them like a book hater who disregards the fabulousness that is books)

As a result of this neglectfulness my Goodreads challenge is punishing me and saying I’m a book behind... maybe even two books. SO as you can see finals messed with all my prioritizes and now I’m in jeopardy of not completing my Goodreads challenge (this is a code RED situation here folks) so I thought I’d get my brain in order here (whatever left of it after finals) and organize what books I need to read here:

Library Haul:

Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor

Just started this last night and I’m intrigued...

Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes

Heard good things about this series and it kinda gives me Game of Thrones vibes... very excited to dig into this

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson

This has been on my radar for quite some time so I’m hoping it is just as good as promised!

Physical books (aka paid for w my own money and the reason I’m so broke):

Vicious by VE Scwab

Picked this up at the bookstore and am SO EXCITED I LOVE VE SCWAB SHE IS A GODDESS!! AHH!

ARCS:

The Au Pair by Emma Rous

I’m about half way through this and so far enjoying... a little bit of upper class mystery going on here. I like it.

Other books I’d like to get around to some time:

ARC Review: I Do Not Trust You by Laura J. Burns and Melinda Metz

I Do Not Trust You

by: Laura J Burns and Melinda Metz

Rating: 3/5 stars

Published: September 11th 2018

**A huge thanks to Wednesday books and St. Martins publishing for an advanced copy of this book! Sorry it took a bit to get the review up, all thoughts and opinions are my own**

Summary: Memphis "M" Engle is stubborn to a fault, graced with an almost absurd knowledge of long lost languages and cultures, and a heck of an opponent in a fight. In short: she's awesome.

Ashwin Sood is a little too posh for her tastes, a member of an ancient cult (which she’s pretty sure counts for more than one strike against him), and has just informed Memphis that her father who she thought was dead isn’t and needs her help.

From the catacombs of Paris to lost temples in the sacred forests, together they crisscross the globe, searching for the pieces of the one thing that might save her father. But the closer they come to saving him—and the more they fall for one another—the closer they get to destroying the world.

My Review: This book was okay. I must admit the premise was intriguing and I mean look at that cover...

So beautiful I gots hearts in my eyes

However it just overall fell flat and didn’t really keep my attention. Lots of action packed elements and I thought the archeologist stuff was cool and really not done in YA enough but again I was BORED!

Memphis was a very strong willed character who was wicked smart and knew a ton about different Egyptian hieroglyphics which again had me intrigued! However the writing and the storyline combined just did not keep my attention!!

I had such high expectations here and somehow the book just ended up so MEH. The characters lacked depth but really the plot line just was not engaging for me. Way too analytical and not enough fun or plot twists.

Sadly was let down by this book but wound up giving it three stars just because it was so original and had some cool mummy I dig up old fossils vibes that I would normally be so about! Three stars for originality but unfortunately did not impress.

What about you guys? Read this book? Want to? Let me know in the comments below!

November Wrap Up (Finally out of my reading slump, Holidays, and more!)

Hey guys! I simply cannot believe it is already December!! Like what the... where did all the time go??

I mean I must admit Starbucks was already blasting the Christmas music on November 1st so I guess some people got their priorities in order. However I did get out of my reading slump YAY! I think after Empire of storms I was just complete lost reading wise and just needed to get my hands on KOA before I could finally get past it!!

 Books I read:

Rating: 4/5 stars

Rating: 4/5 stars

Rating: 4/5 stars

  • Wow three books... not really impressed with myself here however at least I did get some reading done because we were in trouble over here for a bit. Like not a book in sight kind of trouble but hopefully were turning over a new leaf here in November.

My Favorite Read:

Slayer by Kiersten White was actually a really surprising read! I thought I wouldn’t love it because the cover and the blurb just seemed a bit meh to me but actually I LOVED it and it totally brought me back to how much I love paranormal YA. I want more vampire books in YA!

December TBR:

On the Blog:

Whats going on in my life:

  • Well school has been a rollercoaster! So many classes and HW assignments to keep track of so thats been crazy
  • Also Thanksgiving break!! So that was a nice little brief break we all got to eat some food and hang out with the fam (seriously I ate thanksgiving food for three days in a row and I was like can I get some real food now please)
  • Also when I came back teachers are over here like still wanting to teach us new stuff... and I’m over here like hold the phone we need to start reviewing for finals because my brain remembers literally zero.. so please help me
  • Also I am literally sooo broke and need to buy Christmas gifts so if any of you know any cheap cute places to buy things as a broke penny pinching college student I would greatly appreciate it.

Overall wish I could have done more blogging but school has been crazy and I haven’t had as much free time for blogging between hw, classes, and hanging with friends. Hopefully I’ll be able to post more regular during December/ January due to winter break!

So how was everybody’s November? A good reading month? What were your reading highs and lows? LMK in the comments below!
